Who Makes Nuobell Dumbbells?

If you’re a gym enthusiast, you’ve probably heard of Nuobell dumbbells

These nifty adjustable dumbbells have taken the fitness world by storm, and it’s not hard to see why. They’re sleek, compact, and adjustable, making them the perfect addition to any home gym

But who exactly makes these magical dumbbells?

Introducing NÜO Athletics

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to NÜO Athletics

This Swedish company is the mastermind behind Nuobell dumbbells, and let me tell you, they know their stuff. The story of NÜO Athletics started in 1997 by Tomas Svenberg who was a rower on Sweden’s national team.

He realized that to reach peak performance, he had to work out at home as well. However, gym equipment didn’t meet the professional standard he needed to push his physical limits.

So, he sketched the blueprints for a dumbbell that could replace an entire set of fixed dumbbells while avoiding complex weight changes — and with that, Nuobell was born!

The Evolution of Nuobell

Nuobell dumbbells didn’t become the sleek, adjustable wonders we know and love overnight. They’ve gone through quite a transformation over the years.

Here are the main checkpoints of its 25-year history:

  • 1997: NÜO Athletics founder Tomas Svenberg assembles a team with expertise in engineering and athletics to create the high-tech OMNIGYM, a new type of home gym.
  • 2001: OMNIGYM is showcased at FIBO in Germany, the first step in a successful global rollout.
  • 2006: NÜO Athletics experiments with a dumbbell based on OMNIGYM’s design principles and launches FLEXBELL, the world’s smartest dumbbell. Second-generation OMNIGYM is sold at designer stores.
  • 2008: NÜO Athletics develops and patents a high-precision gauge system for measuring power effect with the help of Professor Johnny Nilsson.
  • 2009: NÜO Athletics launches the commercial generation of FLEXBELL at the ISPO trade show. The trade press praises the innovative engineering behind the dumbbell.
  • 2010: Stairmaster acquires the rights to produce and promote FLEXBELL in the USA under the Twistlock brand. OMNIGYM expands into new markets worldwide.
  • 2011: StarTrac acquires the exclusive rights to use NÜO Athletics’ patented high-precision gauge system under the Spinning brand. OMNIGYM is installed in a private yacht and an OMNIGYM cabinet sells at auction for €12,000.
  • 2013: NÜO Athletics launches a new generation of FLEXBELL with higher quality materials, refined engineering, and higher capacity.
  • 2020: FLEXBELL is rebranded as NÜOBELL, featuring more accessible 2kg weight increments.
  • 2021: NÜO Athletics signs joint branding agreements with big-brand fitness companies worldwide.

And that brings us to today. Nuobell dumbbells are the epitome of fitness innovation, and they show no signs of slowing down.
